Alex Martin "The Thistle" 12 Gauge Cartridge
A very nice and attractive Alexander Martin “The Thistle” 12-bore sporting cartridge, bearing one of the most distinctive proprietary names associated with this celebrated Scottish gunmaker.
Alexander Martin & Co. became one of Scotland's best-known sporting gunmakers, with premises in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and later Stirling. In addition to its sporting guns and rifles, the firm offered an extensive range of cartridges carrying distinctive house names.
“The Thistle” was particularly appropriate for the firm, as the thistle formed an important part of Alexander Martin's own trademark and provided an unmistakably Scottish identity to the cartridge.
The Thistle formed part of a fascinating family of Alexander Martin cartridges that included such names as The AGE, Caledonia, Scotia, Stirling and Velm.
