Arthur Turner "The WIZARD" 12 Gauge Cartridge
A scarce Arthur Turner “The Wizard” 12-bore sporting cartridge, bearing the name of the historic Sheffield gunmaker and sporting retailer.
Arthur Turner succeeded to the established Maleham gunmaking business in Sheffield during the early 20th century. By 1920 the firm was trading as Arthur Turner (late Maleham & Co.) from West Bar, and from 1932 operated simply under the Arthur Turner name.
The firm supplied a variety of proprietary sporting cartridges, using the colourful trade names characteristic of the British ammunition market of the period. “The Wizard” is an especially evocative example, reflecting the imaginative branding used to distinguish sporting cartridges on gunshop shelves.
