Early ELEY LONDON 10 Gauge Gastight" Pin Fire Cartridge
Eley’s Gastight cartridge was an important development in the evolution of the British shotgun cartridge. The design incorporated additional reinforcement around the base of the paper case, intended to strengthen the cartridge in the region of the powder charge and reduce the risk of gas leakage or case failure. The Gastight principle is associated with a William Thomas patent dating to 1869.
