Eley "Fourlong" .410 Gauge Cartridge
A classic Eley “Fourlong” .410 gauge cartridge, representing an important development in the history of British small-bore sporting ammunition.
Eley introduced the Fourlong in 1912 as a longer and more powerful development of its established 2-inch .410 cartridge. The Fourlong used a 2½-inch (65mm) case, providing greater capacity than the shorter cartridge and originally accommodating a 7/16 oz (approximately 12.5g) shot charge.
The distinctive “Fourlong” name identified Eley’s longer .410 loading and complemented the company’s “Fourten” name used for the traditional 2-inch cartridge. The introduction of the 2½-inch case was an important stage in the development of the .410, providing increased shot capacity while retaining the compact proportions that made the calibre popular for small-game and general sporting use.
The Fourlong proved to be an exceptionally enduring Eley name.
