Geo. Hinton & Sons 12 Gauge Cartridge
A scarce Geo. Hinton & Sons 12-bore sporting cartridge, associated with the historic West Country gunmaking and sporting firm of Taunton, Somerset.
George Hinton & Sons traded as gun, rifle and cartridge manufacturers, as well as suppliers of fishing tackle and general sporting goods, from premises in Fore Street, Taunton.
The firm supplied cartridges carrying its own name, with surviving examples providing an interesting reminder of the once-thriving provincial gun trade, when regional gunmakers and sporting retailers offered ammunition bearing their own distinctive markings and proprietary names.
Hinton cartridges have a particularly strong connection with Somerset sporting history, and examples carrying the firm's Taunton markings are attractive survivors of the traditional British gunmaking and cartridge trade.
