George Gibbs "The BRISTOL" 12 Gauge Cartridge
A nice early example of a George Gibbs “The Bristol” 12-bore sporting cartridge, supplied under the name of the celebrated Bristol gunmaker George Gibbs.
George Gibbs was one of the most respected names in the West Country gun trade, becoming particularly renowned for the firm's sporting guns, rifles and extensive range of proprietary ammunition.
“The Bristol” was one of several distinctive shotgun cartridges offered by George Gibbs during the inter-war period. Historical cartridge records date the Bristol name to 1922, with further variations appearing during the 1920s alongside other Gibbs cartridges such as the Field, Intermediate, County and Crown Covert.
Gunmaker-branded cartridges such as The Field are fascinating survivors from an era when prominent British gunmakers supplied sporting ammunition under their own carefully chosen trade names.
