Greener Police Gun Brass cartridge 12 Gauge
The "Greener Police Gun Brass cartridge 12 Gauge"
An interesting example of a 1952 Greener Police Gun cartridge, produced for use with the distinctive W.W. Greener Police Gun.
The Greener Police Gun was developed for police and security use, particularly within territories of the former British Empire. Its specialised ammunition was deliberately designed to differ from conventional sporting shotgun cartridges.
The later Greener Mk III cartridge is immediately recognisable by its unusual bottlenecked profile, with a base approximately equivalent to 12 bore reducing to the smaller-diameter body. The cartridge also incorporates a distinctive annular groove around the primer area. This corresponded with the specialised striker arrangement of the Mk III Police Gun and was intended to prevent ordinary commercial shotgun ammunition from being substituted.
Dating from 1952, this example represents the post-war period of Greener Police Gun use and is an unusual piece of British ammunition and policing history.
