A nice Charles Hellis & Sons “The Economist” 12-bore shotgun cartridge, produced by the respected London gunmaker and specialist cartridge-loading firm.

Charles Hellis & Sons became particularly well known for the quality of its hand-loaded sporting cartridges and offered an extensive range under distinctive proprietary names. “The Economist” was one such cartridge, produced as a 2½-inch, low-brass sporting load.

Operating from Edgware Road, Hyde Park, London, Hellis developed one of the largest independent cartridge-loading businesses in the country, supplying sporting ammunition to a distinguished clientele as well as producing numerous cartridges under its own house names.
