Holland & Holland “Badminton” 12-bore sporting cartridge
A scarce Holland & Holland “Badminton” 12-bore sporting cartridge, bearing one of the distinctive proprietary names associated with this celebrated London gunmaker.
The Badminton name was used by Holland & Holland during the inter-war period for sporting guns and associated ammunition. By 1934, the firm's catalogue included its Badminton range of hammerless guns, including exceptionally lightweight 12-bores intended for the short 2-inch cartridge.
Period ammunition bearing the Badminton name is also known, including Badminton High Velocity 12-bore cartridges loaded under the Holland & Holland name.
The cartridge provides an attractive connection with the elegant lightweight sporting guns fashionable during the 1930s and with Holland & Holland's long tradition of supplying proprietary ammunition to its clientele.
