Pollard & Co
A scarce and attractive H. E. Pollard & Co. shotgun cartridge, retailed and/or loaded by the well-known Worcester gunmaking and sporting firm.
H. E. Pollard & Co. succeeded the long-established Worcester gunmaker Perrins & Son during the late Victorian period and became established at 62 Broad Street, Worcester. In addition to its gunmaking and sporting trade, Pollard was associated with the loading and sale of its own named shotgun cartridges.
Provincial gunmaker cartridges such as this are particularly interesting survivors of the British sporting trade, recalling a period when local gunsmiths and gunmakers supplied cartridges bearing their own names rather than relying exclusively upon the major national ammunition brands.
A fascinating piece of Worcestershire shooting and gunmaking history and an appealing example for collectors of British provincial and gunmaker-loaded cartridges.
