The "ACE" Long Range 12 Gauge Cartridge
A scarce “The Ace Long Range” 12-bore sporting cartridge, produced by the Mullerite Cartridge Works of Birmingham during the inter-war period.
Established in Birmingham in 1922, the Mullerite Cartridge Works produced a distinctive range of British shotgun ammunition using Mullerite and Clermonite propellants. Among the firm's proprietary cartridge names were “The Ace” and the appropriately named “The Ace Long Range.”
The Long Range designation reflects the period fashion for cartridges specifically marketed for sporting situations requiring increased effective range. Its bold branding is typical of the imaginative cartridge names employed by British ammunition makers during the golden age of the paper-cased shotgun cartridge.
An attractive and unusual survivor of inter-war Birmingham cartridge manufacture.
